Jolly Butcher's Yard

Jolly Butchers , Norwich. George Plunkett’s photo reproduced by kind permission of J Plunkett

Located at 23 - 25 Ber Street, the yard was named after the Jolly Butcher's Pub which is pictured here in 1936 (the yard entrance is to the right of the pub).

The pub is remembered affectionately by many citizens of Norwich as "Black Anna's," named after the landlady Antoinette Hannent. Anna took over the pub in 1935 & held jazz sessions here, she acquired her nickname as she only ever wore black.
