Crown Court Yard
Located at 20 - 22 Elm Hill, Crown Court was the original courtyard entrance to a large house, which in the 15th century, was owned by the Paston family.
When it was destroyed by fire in 1507, a new house was erected by Augustine Steward, whose merchant's mark and the arms of the Mercers Company can still be seen carved at each end of the 16th century lintel (pictured in 1938) which spans the entrance.
The Court took its name from the Crown pub which traded on Elm Hill from 1760 until 1929.
